What It Covers

What the GAF Golden Pledge Actually Includes

The GAF Golden Pledge® Limited Warranty provides a Lifetime limited warranty term for qualifying manufacturing defects and workmanship on eligible single-family detached residences. Manufacturing-defect coverage is non-prorated for 50 years. Workmanship coverage is non-prorated for 25 years with Timberline HDZ® and Timberline HDZ® RS shingles, and 30 years with eligible designer shingles, including Grand Sequoia®. Coverage becomes prorated after the applicable non-prorated period. Tear-off and disposal are included when necessary for an approved covered claim. Eligibility, exclusions, registration requirements, and complete coverage terms are defined by the GAF Golden Pledge Limited Warranty.

Manufacturing-Defect Coverage

A Lifetime limited term on qualifying GAF system components — non-prorated for the first 50 years, then prorated.

Tear-Off & Disposal

Tear-off and disposal are included when necessary in connection with an approved covered claim, backed by GAF.

Workmanship Coverage

A Lifetime limited workmanship (misapplication) term — non-prorated for 25 years with Timberline HDZ / HDZ RS, or 30 years with eligible designer shingles like Grand Sequoia — backed by GAF, not just by the contractor.

Manufacturer-Backed

GAF stands behind the warranty directly — not just a contractor promise.

Qualifying System Components

Applies to qualifying GAF system components installed as part of a complete GAF system.

Why It's Different

Standard Material Warranty vs Golden Pledge

Most basic shingle installs come with a standard material warranty — which only covers the shingles if they fail on their own, and explicitly excludes installation workmanship.

Standard Material Warranty

Covers shingle defects only. Excludes workmanship. Difficult to claim. The default coverage on most basic installs.

GAF Golden Pledge — Westmark Standard

lifetime material, labor & workmanship — manufacturer-backed. Available on qualifying complete GAF system installations. Included on every qualifying Westmark GAF asphalt install.

What 'Qualifying' Means

What Makes a Project Eligible for Golden Pledge

The Golden Pledge isn't automatic. It requires the project to be installed to GAF manufacturer specification by a qualified contractor as a complete matched system.

  • Installed to GAF manufacturer specification by a qualified contractor

  • Complete GAF system — matched components, not mixed brands

  • Installed to GAF manufacturer specification

  • Registered with GAF after installation

Common Questions

GAF allows limited transferability of the Golden Pledge to subsequent homeowners, subject to GAF's terms. Talk to us about specifics for your project — it's a real selling point at resale.

It provides a Lifetime limited warranty term, backed by GAF directly, for qualifying manufacturing defects and workmanship (misapplication) on eligible single-family detached residences: manufacturing-defect coverage non-prorated for 50 years, and workmanship non-prorated for 25 years (Timberline HDZ / HDZ RS) or 30 years (eligible designer shingles, including Grand Sequoia). Tear-off and disposal are included when necessary for an approved covered claim — not just a contractor's verbal promise.

It's included on every qualifying GAF asphalt installation we do. We install complete GAF systems by default — the warranty isn't an upsell, it's the standard.

It requires proper GAF certification and a commitment to installing complete GAF systems instead of mixed-brand component bids. Many contractors aren't set up for it, or quote shingle-only scopes that don't qualify.
